Car rally for Dragons

Six car loads of Victor Dragons took the day off from paddling to take part in a car rally aimed at raising funds for their dragon boat club.

The teams boasting names such as the the ‘Defibrillators’, ‘Formula 3’ and ‘Lost’ travelled more than 130kms touring Currency Creek, Lake Alexandrina, Milang, Clayton Bay and finished up at The Islanders Tavern on Hindmarsh Island, where winners were announced.

Along the way the teams searched for clues, stopped for photos of cows, phone booths and local sculptures and completed challenges including spelling tests, chin-ups and throwing hoops.

At least one car load got lost and almost missed the BBQ at the Milang Regatta Club and several teams tried bribing rally organisers to earn extra points.

Victor Dragons Club President Morag Craig said everyone enjoyed a fun day out.

“It was a little different being together on the road instead of on the water,” Ms Craig said.

“We raised much needed funds for the upkeep and maintenance of our two boats with most of that coming from the swear jars everyone had in the cars.”
